Raising Hong Kong profile at Australia's Golden Slipper Day

Hong Kong's prominence as a regional business hub and a metropolis where East meets West has been further boosted across Australia with the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office's (HKETO), Sydney, sponsorship of the 'Hong Kong - Asia's World City-George Ryder Stakes' at the Golden Slipper Day in Sydney - one of the biggest events on the international racing calendar.

"The Golden Slipper Day is a world class racing and premier social event on the 'Events New South Wales' annual calendar receiving the widest publicity throughout Australia and New Zealand," the Director of HKETO, Ms Lorna Wong, said while officiating at the event (April 3).

She said as Asia's World City, Hong Kong is renowned for its vitality, dynamism and enterprise, and the same can be said of its racing industry. Australians and the people of Hong Kong share the same passion for horseracing and Australian trainers, jockeys and horses have long played an integral part in the Hong Kong's racing industry.

The Golden Slipper event provides a strategic platform to raise Hong Kong's profile among the top echelon of private and public sectors, including government ministers, heads of government departments, CEOs of major corporations, chairman of business chambers and influential personalities.

"Hong Kong's racing industry enjoys a celebrated history spanning more than a century and now, 13 years after the return of sovereignty to China, exemplifies the success of Hong Kong's One Country, Two Systems arrangement," Ms Wong said.

Prominent publicity was given to Hong Kong in the event – including the naming right for a major race broadcast live on free-to-air TV; a large BrandHK signage at the venue; BrandHK video clips being displayed on a big screen on course and a full page race book advertisement.

In addition, the sponsorship provides a continuous promotional platform throughout 2010 for various Hong Kong messages in the e-newsletters and official website of the Sydney Turf Club, the organiser of the Golden Slipper Day.
