Hong Kong's Urban Best Practices Area (UBPA) Exhibition at Expo 2010 in Shanghai welcomed its 1-millionth visitor on September 19.

The Deputy Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development (Communications and Technology), Mr Alan Siu, said the exhibition highlighted the use of emerging technology to improve the quality of life in Hong Kong.

"We are very pleased that the exhibition has been so well received by Expo visitors and that so many people have come to learn more about Hong Kong’s successful experience in using smart card and Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technologies in daily city life to enhance our living quality and efficiency," said Mr Siu.

"The number of visitors is certainly a direct indicator of the popularity of the Hong Kong's UBPA Exhibition and the record is most encouraging.

"Now that we are approaching the last month of the Expo, we will step up our efforts to maintain a high level of service to the visitors so that they will all have a wonderful and memorable experience in the visit."

Hong Kong's UBPA Exhibition, under the theme of "Smart Card.Smart City.Smart Life", showcases the creative and extensive applications of smart card and RIFD technologies to improve the quality of city life in Hong Kong.

Since Expo 2010 Shanghai China opened on May 1, Hong Kong's UBPA Exhibition has welcomed an average of more than 7,000 visitors per day.
