Renminbi sovereign bonds to be issued in HK

The Central Government of the People's Republic of China will issue renminbi sovereign bonds totalling RMB6 billion in Hong Kong on September 28.

The Hong Kong Government has welcomed the move, saying it demonstrates the Central Government's support for Hong Kong as an international financial centre to further develop renminbi business. It also illustrates the interactive, complementary and co-operative relationship between the financial systems of both jurisdictions.

The measure is expected to have a significant impact in promoting the depth and breadth of the Hong Kong bond market, and strengthening Hong Kong's position as a global financial centre.
