  Airport passenger traffic up 6.9%

Hong Kong International Airport Terminal 2Hong Kong International Airport reported solid growth in the first half of the year, with passenger traffic up 6.9% to 27.6 million passengers.

Air traffic movements climbed 5.8% to 171,870 during the first six months, while cargo throughput remained unchanged at 1.9 million tonnes.

The steady performance was driven by overall traffic growth in June. During the month, passenger volume rose 5.5% over a year earlier, to 4.7 million, and air traffic movements rose 4.9% to reach 28,415.

Cargo volume increased 4.1% to 334,000 tonnes during the month.

June's growth in passenger traffic was driven mainly by visitor traffic, up 6% over the same month last year. Passenger traffic to and from the Mainland performed particularly well.

The increase in cargo throughput was primarily due to an 8% year-on-year growth in imports. Cargo throughput to and from South East Asia outperformed other key regions during the month.
