Launch of 'A History of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Sydney since Federation'

The first committee members of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce in 1912.Work has begun on a major project to document the history of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Sydney in the 20th century which will culminate in the publication of a two volume academic history in 2015. This work is being undertaken by Dr Mei-fen Kuo, Australian Research Council Postdoctoral Fellow at La Trobe University, with the support of Professor John Fitzgerald of Swinburne University of Technology and Associate Professor Lai Chi-kong of Queensland University. In addition, a separate pictorial history will be published for supporters of this project.

The digitalisation of archives of the early Chinese Chamber of Commerce from 1898 to 1942 has already been completed with the support of the Noel Butlin Archives Centre of Australian National University and Academia Sinica. This is an exciting project which will document the rich Chinese commercial heritage of Sydney and the Australia - China - Hong Kong commercial network and friendship of the last century.

On the 20 March 2013, the Chinese Chamber of Commerce will launch 'A History of the Chinese Chamber Of Commerce in Sydney since Federation'. The event will be held at Hong Kong House and has been sponsored by the Hong Kong Economic & Trade Office.

At the conclusion of the project, sponsors have the opportunity to receive a copy of a limited edition, pictorial 'History of the Chinese Chamber Of Commerce in Sydney since Federation' which will not be available to the public.
