Australian skincare company expands into Asia via Hong Kong

Anumi skincare director Ms Belinda Leung said their new Hong Kong outlet is an important step in building brand awareness in Asia.Australian skincare company Anumi recently announced the opening of its first branded outlet in Hong Kong after a year of successful retail operations in partnership with major specialty stores.

The outlet opened on Nathan Road in Tsim Sha Tsui, renowned for its large number of international and Chinese visitors. The company plans to open its first Anumi Organic Experience Centre in Hong Kong in mid- 2014.

The Associate Director-General of Investment Promotion at Invest Hong Kong, Mr Andrew Davis, welcomed Anumi's rapid expansion in Hong Kong.

"Whether you are a wholesaler or a retailer, Hong Kong offers the advantages of proximity to source and access to a wide range of consumers. With over 48 million visitors from around the world in 2012, the city is the shop window for international customers, especially Mainland consumers, and hence an excellent platform to showcase your products to the world,” said Mr Davis.

The Anumi brand first started selling at specialty stores and pharmacy groups in Hong Kong in 2012, and, according to director Ms Belinda Leung, the results have been very encouraging. Ms Leung said the new Hong Kong outlet is an important step in building brand awareness in Asia.

"We have seen very keen demand for natural and safe-to-use skincare products among local customers and overseas visitors in Hong Kong. The city offers an attractive retail environment as there is no import tax, so by setting up here we can import our natural products from Australia at relatively lower cost," Ms Leung said.

She added that Anumi aims to get a major share in the natural skincare market as its products are certified organic according to the Australian Organic Standard. "The skincare market in Hong Kong is very strong and there is untapped demand in the organic products segment, so there is great potential for us to grow in Hong Kong and expand further in the region," she said.
