  HK shares climate change strategy

Hong Kong has shared its strategies for tackling climate change with other major international cities as part of the United Nations C40 Workshop.

The C40 comprises major cities across all continents committed to working together to deal with the challenges of climate change.

Secretary for the Environment Edward Yau led a Hong Kong delegation to this year’s C40 workshop in Berlin on June 10.

Mr Yau said the event provided a platform for experience sharing and exchanges, and helped foster closer collaboration among C40 member cities.

He said Hong Kong would learn from Berlin as host city as the next workshop will be held in Hong Kong in November.

Mr Yau attended the workshop's opening ceremony and then joined the discussion session with high-ranking representatives of C40 cities on regulatory measures and charting new strategies.

During the opening plenum, he gave a presentation on Hong Kong's action agenda in combating climate change and reducing carbon emissions.

These measures included the promotion of environment-friendly vehicles and a low-carbon lifestyle, as well as measures to improve buildings' energy efficiency. He said the momentum of the city's efforts will continue to be stepped up.
