Over 1,000 at 'Open' Hong Kong House!

Well over 1,000 people came to enjoy the spectacular old building and see areas not normally opened to the public. To accentuate the significance of Hong Kong House in Sydney as an important heritage building, this year marked Hong Kong House’s first ever participation in the Sydney Open – biennially presented by the Historic Houses Trust showcasing Sydney’s architectural and heritage heart.

Well over 1,000 people marched through the door of the one day only event, on Sunday 4 November, and were able to go behind the scenes of the spectacular old building and see areas not normally opened to the public.

A great opportunity to take in the incredible views off the 5th floor balcony of the Sydney Town Hall and Queen Victoria Building only metres away. There were beautiful photo exhibitions on display throughout the building along with visual displays, talks, and a lucky draw.  And of course all this while enjoying the feel and splendour of the grand dame while taking in the incredible views off the 5th floor balcony of the Sydney Town Hall and Queen Victoria Building only metres away!

Since 1995, the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (HKETO) has been based in Hong Kong House in Sydney’s Central Business District.

The building that is now known as Hong Kong House has played an important part in the history and development of Sydney City since the 1890s. It is because of this significant role that the HKETO had also commissioned a coffee table book to highlight previously unknown information about the building and to feature archival photos and plans that are normally buried in heritage photo lockers. A real gem of a read about the area and site that now hosts Hong Kong House.
