The Hong Kong New Zealand Business Association

Since the establishment in 1988, the Hong Kong New Zealand Business Association ("HKNZBA") endeavours to foster business links between New Zealand business people who has a focus on Hong Kong, Greater China and the wider Asia region.

With around 100 members, the HKNZBA is now a nationwide organisation with the majority of its corporate members locating in Auckland from different sectors including manufacturing, retail and wholesale, import and export, banking and finance, trading, tourism and other professional services.

It also has individual members, student members and country members - a category reserved for those living outside the main centres who might find it difficult to attend the various events and seminars held by the association throughout the year.

Functioning as a business networking platform, the HKNZBA offers monthly events to its members, often with prestige guest speakers sharing insights on the hottest topics of the Hong Kong, Greater China and Wider Asia business scenes.

In the year of 2011, the HKNZBA hosted and co hosted 15 events with a great variety including educational, informational and recreational activities catering needs of business people from different sectors and served more than 1,500 attendees in total.

The Hong Kong Festival was a highlight of the year and it won the Federation of Hong Kong Business Associations Worldwide, The Best Initiative Awards for the second consecutive year.

Stella Chan, President of HKNZBA says the HKNZBA will be having another exciting year in 2012 with a number of planned events and activities, including the Hong Kong Festival in its 4th year. This year's Hong Kong Festival is brining a series of events to New Zealand in July and August including seminars, networking events, movie screenings and other art and cultural events in celebration of the 15th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

Stella heads HKNZBA's committee of 15 people, which includes 14 executive members from banking, accountancy, legal, financial and tourism sectors and ex-officios from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and New Zealand Trade and Enterprise and Phoebe Sou as administrator.

The New Zealand-Hong Kong, China Closer Economic Partnership Agreement continues to boost the trade between the two partners. Bilateral trade reached US$1 billion and is growing by 11 per cent a year. HKNZBA works with the Hong Kong Government units including the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, Hong Kong Economic and Trade Offices, Invest Hong Kong and Hong Kong Tourism Board to facilitate trade information and assist its members.
