  HKABA-SA Business Awards 2011

South Australian businesses working in Hong Kong and China were given the chance to shine on 12 August as the Hong Kong Australia Business Association – South Australia (HKABA-SA) Chapter celebrated their achievements in its annual Business Awards gala event at the Entertainment Centre. Over 270 guests attended the event, including Lieutenant Governor Mr Hieu Van Le, Minister for Industry and Trade Hon Tom Koutsantonis MP; Mr Steve Barclay, Director, Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office Council; Ms Bonnie Shek, Director, Hong Kong Trade Development Council; Mr Cameron Boardman, Director, Invest HK; and Ms Lucinda Chan, National President, HKABA.

This is the eighth year the HKABA-SA Business Awards have been held and the association is keen to encourage more local successes from across a range of industries. Patrick Ho, President of HKABA-SA Chapter, said: "We are delighted with the number of nominations received and the calibre of entrants was outstanding."

Ming Liang Ma, winner of the Entrepreneur of the Year Award, said: "South Australia is still a thriving place for entrepreneurs. I started Cherry Blossom Sushi Bar four years ago and have constantly explored different ideas to improve and expand on the business." Minister Koutsantonis, who presented at the event, also acknowledged the successes of nominees.

"To grow your business internationally, it is important to promote your achievements so I hope the award recipients and nominees will inspire even more businesses to share their success stories," he said.

Using established networks of business associations and contacts is fundamental for entering into big markets like Hong Kong and China. Michael Higgs, of Food and Beverage Import Export Pty Ltd, said: "Using the knowledge and experience we have gained as a participant of HKABA events, we now bring South Australian producers to world class food and beverage buyers in Asia."

In November, HKABA-SA will again be attending the annual Hong Kong Forum – the flagship event of the Federation of Hong Kong Business Associations Worldwide.

The event provides valuable market intelligence for business outlook of Hong Kong and China, and allows participants to network with 310 companies from 24 countries and improve their business strategies.
