Hong Kong welcomes in the Year of the Dragon in style

The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (HKETO) in conjunction with Hong Kong Trade Development Council, Hong Kong Tourism Board, Invest Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Australia Business Association, ushered in the Year of the Dragon with a series of receptions across Australia and New Zealand.

Festivities for the Chinese New Year began in Melbourne on the 30th of January and continued through Sydney, Auckland, Brisbane, and Adelaide and onto Perth, finishing in Canberra on the 28th of February.

Hosting industry leaders, politicians and business people , the Chinese New Year celebrations allow for HKETO to show the vivacity and wealth of resource that is Hong Kong, by providing an opportunity for participation in one the most important dates on the Hong Kong calendar.

Widely recognised as an economic hub of Asia, knowledge of Hong Kong as a cultural centre is not as wide spread. The Chinese New Year celebrations provided an opportunity to showcase Hong Kong in a new light.

One of the highlights of this year's Chinese New Year celebrations was undoubtedly the performances by the Hong Kong Melody Makers who appeared at the receptions invited out from Hong Kong by HKETO.

Known for their wonderful unaccompanied vocal arrangements and their enthusiastic stage presence, the Melody Makers were met with a passionate response at each event. The media have described their performances as 'nothing short of spectacular'.

"While Hong Kong is primarily recognised as a business city, a group like the Melody Makers helps to remind us about the diverse art and culture that Hong Kong hosts", said Mr Steve Barclay, Director of HKETO.
