First ICAO Traveller Identification Programme Regional Seminar
The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and Hong Kong Civil Aviation Department jointly organised a seminar in Hong Kong to exchange views on measures and technology in relation to traveller identification management (TRIP). During the three-day seminar held between 11 and 13 July, about 200 representatives from the ICAO and its members worldwide had in-depth discussions and exchanges on various areas of mutual interest ranging from machine-readable travel document standards, specifications and best practices, secure travel document issuance to robust evidence of identity processes and  information-sharing technologies. Hong Kong is the first city in the Asia-Pacific region to co-host the ICAO TRIP Regional Seminar. Read more about the seminar here.
     
Hong Kong Summit 2017
The Hong Kong Summit 2017 was held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre on 11 July. With the theme of “Regional Co-operation between Hong Kong and East Asia: Innovating New Ideas Embracing New Opportunities”, the Summit brought together ministerial-level principal officials, business leaders, experts and academics from Hong Kong, Mainland China and East Asian countries to explore the prospect of economic cooperation and sustainable development within the region, as well as to discuss Hong Kong’s roles and functions in promoting regional collaboration. Read more about the Summit here.  Read the speech by the Chief Executive at the opening of the summit here.
     
  Outdoor art project to celebrate 20th anniversary
Twenty sets of innovative seats were displayed at 20 venues in Hong Kong including parks, waterfront, leisure areas and playgrounds starting from 23 July to offer members of the public a fun and unique outdoor experience.  This outdoor art project “City Dress Up: Seats · Together” was part of the celebration events to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR). The seats were specifically made to echo with the environment and the characteristics of the respective locations or districts, also to inject artistic elements into Hong Kong’s city scene in promoting solidarity in communities. Read more about the project here.
 
     
  20th anniversary celebration events in Australia and New Zealand
The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, Sydney (HKETO) hosted  a gala dinner/receptions in Sydney, Melbourne and Auckland in July to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the HKSAR. Hundreds of guests from various sectors including political and business circles, academia and community groups as well as government representatives attended the events, while young artists travelling from Hong Kong presented Cantonese opera performance to the guests.   Hong Kong students excel at International Physics and Mathematics competition
Two teams of Hong Kong secondary school students achieved outstanding results at the 48th International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) in Yogyakarta, Indonesia and the 58th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in July. At the IPhO, participated by nearly 400 students in Physics from 86 countries or regions, Hong Kong team won two gold medals, one silver medal and two bronze medals. Competing against 615 mathematically students from more than 110 countries or regions at the IMO, the Hong Kong team won one gold medal, one silver medal, three bronze medals and one honourable mention.  Read more about the story here.
