ChAFTA – furthering opportunity for low cost sourcing and procurement from China
‘Procuring in Asia 2015’ conference to help Australian companies overcome sourcing obstacles

While Austrade cites the recently signed China and Australia Free Trade Agreement (ChAFTA) as benefitting the Australian export market for goods and services, the agreement also provides a new and larger platform for procurement opportunities overseas. Navigating the impacts of potential tariffs, quotas and border crossings can be a difficult hurdle for Australian companies looking to enter the world of low cost sourcing, but Free Trade Agreements (FTA) can ease the restrictions and regulations and help businesses take the first step.

Despite the opportunities this new FTA could bring to Australian sourcing and procurement operations, the pressure to improve processes, lower costs and decrease time to market remains relentless.

Procurement teams sourcing from Asia often lack organisational support and prominence, tend to focus on short-term activities, rely on inadequate demand management processes and struggle with underdeveloped supply bases. Even large-scale Australian companies with procurement operations already in countries like China are still actively searching for better low cost sourcing strategies.

At the Procuring in Asia 2015 conference, being held in Sydney from 8-10 September, leading minds from Telstra, Qantas, GE, Hatch, Orica, Mercy Health, Downer, Skins and many more will share how they have gained a competitive advantage by implementing effective ‘value based’ sourcing strategies with Asian suppliers.

The conference has been designed specifically to help procurement and sourcing managers take their Asian sourcing operations to the next level, and overcome the challenge of operating a geographically long supply chain.
